Pool Demolition & Removal in Jacksonville, FL
Reclaim your backyard. We drain, demolish, backfill, and grade in-ground pools of every type — permitted through Duval County and left as clean, compacted, buildable ground.
An unused pool is a standing liability — insurance headaches, safety worries, and a maintenance bill that never stops. At Level Demolition & Waste Removal, we remove in-ground pools across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida the right way: properly permitted, correctly drained, demolished with the right equipment, and backfilled in compacted lifts so the ground stays stable for years to come. Whether you want the pool gone entirely or filled in economically, we’ve handled both across the region since 2005 — and we leave the yard graded, clean, and ready for grass, a slab, or whatever comes next. Because we self-perform the demolition, hauling, and grading, you get one crew and one clear price instead of juggling separate subcontractors.
Know Your Options
Full removal vs. partial removal
There are two accepted ways to take out an in-ground pool. The right one depends on your budget, your plans for the space, and what you’re willing to disclose down the road.
Full Removal
The entire pool comes out — all concrete, gunite, rebar, and the liner or shell are broken up and hauled off the site completely. The hole is then backfilled with clean fill and compacted in lifts.
- Buildable ground — leaves soil you can later build on, pour a slab over, or landscape freely.
- Cleanest disclosure — nothing stays buried, so there’s typically nothing to disclose to a future buyer.
- Higher cost — more demolition, more haul-off, and more fill make it the pricier of the two options.
Partial Removal (Fill-In)
The top few feet of the pool are demolished, the bottom is broken up so water can drain through, and the shell is filled and compacted in place. It’s faster and more affordable.
- Lower cost & faster — less material leaves the site, making it the budget-friendly choice.
- Proper drainage — we punch the bottom so water never gets trapped inside the old shell.
- Must be disclosed — because fill material stays buried, Florida sellers generally must disclose a filled-in pool, and the area isn’t considered structurally buildable.
Our Process
From full pool to level ground
Every removal follows the same disciplined sequence so the finished yard is safe, stable, and drains the way it should.
Permit & prep
We pull the Duval County demolition permit, then drain the water and disconnect the electrical, gas, and plumbing lines serving the pool.
Demolition
Deck and pool structure are broken up with the right equipment — concrete, gunite, rebar, and shell separated for haul-off or reuse as fill.
Backfill & compaction
Clean fill goes in and is compacted in measured lifts — the step that prevents the sinking and settling of a rushed fill-in.
Grade & inspect
We finish-grade the surface to drain correctly and call for the final inspection so your project closes out clean.
Every Pool Type
Gunite, concrete, vinyl & fiberglass
Construction type changes how a pool comes apart and what it costs to remove. We work with all of them.
Gunite & Shotcrete
The most common in-ground build in Florida — a heavily reinforced sprayed-concrete shell that’s broken out with hydraulic equipment.
Poured Concrete
Thick, rebar-laden walls and floors that demand real demolition muscle and proper debris handling to remove.
Vinyl-Liner
Steel or polymer walls with a liner — the liner and hardware come out, and the walls and floor are removed or collapsed and filled.
Fiberglass
A one-piece shell that’s cut up and lifted out; because it won’t break down underground, it’s fully removed rather than buried.
Permitting & Inspections
Done right in Duval County
- Demolition permit — pool removal in Jacksonville requires a permit; we pull it and keep the paperwork straight so the job is legal from day one.
- Utility disconnects — electrical, gas, and water serving the pool are properly disconnected and, where required, inspected before demolition.
- Compaction & final inspection — the county wants fill compacted correctly and the site graded to drain; we build the job to pass and call for the inspection.
- Clean close-out — a permitted, inspected removal protects your property records and your future sale.

Pool Removal FAQ
Common questions
What’s the difference between full and partial pool removal?
Full removal takes out the entire pool — all concrete, rebar, and shell are hauled away and the hole is backfilled and compacted, leaving buildable ground. Partial removal, or a fill-in, demolishes the top few feet, punches the bottom for drainage, and fills the shell in place. Full costs more but leaves nothing buried; partial is faster and cheaper but generally must be disclosed to future buyers.
How much does pool removal cost in Jacksonville?
It depends on the pool’s size and construction, whether you choose full or partial removal, backyard access for equipment, and how much fill and haul-off the job needs. Partial fill-ins are the budget option; full removals cost more. We quote every pool straight after looking at the site — call 904-292-5340 for an honest number.
Do I need a permit to demolish a pool in Duval County?
Yes. Pool demolition in Jacksonville and Duval County requires a permit, and even a partial fill-in has to be done to code so it drains and compacts properly. We pull the permit and handle the inspections as part of the job.
Do I have to disclose a filled-in pool when I sell?
Generally, yes. With a partial removal, fill material remains buried, and Florida sellers are typically expected to disclose it. A full removal leaves nothing behind, which usually avoids the issue — one reason some homeowners choose it.
How long does pool removal take?
Most residential pools are removed in a few days once the permit is in hand, depending on size, type, backyard access, and weather. We’ll give you a realistic timeline with your estimate.
Can you remove any type of pool?
Yes — gunite, poured concrete, vinyl-liner, and fiberglass in-ground pools. Construction type changes the method and the cost, but we remove them all and grade the yard when we’re done.
Ready to reclaim your backyard?
Full removal or an economical fill-in — we’ll walk your site, handle the permit, and turn that old pool into clean, level ground.
